The second generation iPad (officially iPad 2) is a line of iPad computer developed by Apple Inc. The second installement in the iPad lineup, it was introduced by former Apple CEO Steve Jobs on March 2, 2011, alongside its magetic Smart Cover accessory. It was avaiable in black and white.[1]
Development[]
The second generation of iPad was first released on March 25, 2011 in the United States and 25 international markets with the same price as it is sold in the States.[2] Its release was deplayed to April 29, 2011 in Japan becuase of the 2011 Japanese Earthquakes and Tsunami disaster, due to a lack of supply chain. Apple's profit downgraded 3.63% from the temporary absence of Japan.[3][4]
On January 28, 2010, Apple revised their Program License Agreement policy to permit developer to develop internet-call software based on the 3G cellular network technology.[5]
Features[]
The second generation of iPad supports the iTunes WiFi content sync acorss Apple devices.[6][7] It is equipped with 3G cellular network technolgoy that is capable of techlophy communication (internet call).[5] It uses a 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 chip, which has a 2x faster CPU and a 9x faster GPU performances when compared to its predecessor. It includes an ambient light sensor, an accelerometer, and several audios. Its 9.7-inch screen has a high resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels, which is 33% thinner than its predecessor.
The device weighs 1.3 pounds. The A5 chip offers a 512 MB of LPDDR2 RAM from suppliers Samsung and Hynix, providing a more effective clock rates of 1,066MHz.[8] The battery inside weighs about 2.5 millimeters thick, with three thinner cells. It removes a stamped sheet metal frame from its predecessor to obtain space for new compoents.[9] It supports 720p and 1080p HD movie screen sizes.[10]
